In exciting collaboration news #2 of the day, we’re stoked to feature the newest episode of RVATRACK with math rock staple Night Idea!
Over the past year RVATRACK has become one of the best live performance video series in Richmond, featuring artists varying from Kenneka Cook and Angelica Garcia to Charles Owens and Camp Howard. Directed and edited by Daniel Bagbey and curated/recorded/mixed by Scott Lane of The Congress and American Paradox Records, the crew is rounded out by Craig Zirpolo (myself), Joey Wharton and Gabrielle Silvers on camera. They release monthly episodes recorded at the American Paradox house in Jackson Ward, which began in February of this year with Sid Kingsley.
While other series like Good Day RVA and Overcoast Sessions place a clear emphasis on environment of each video as it suits the performer, RVATRACK has a more traditional, radio-style approach to their videos. The sessions are always recorded in the same double living room, so the beautiful but unchanging backdrop become less of a focus as time goes on. By maintaining the same environment throughout the series, the audience’s attention shifts from the context to the nuances of each performance as the series progresses.
We’re pumped to see what the RVATRACK folks do next, so stay tuned for the November episode coming soon! And don’t miss out on Night Idea‘s album release show at The Broadberry on Friday, October 20th, featuring Navi, Antiphons and Magnus Lush. Tickets are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door and can be purchased here.
