Tuesday night DIY Richmonders were treated to a stacked bill featuring screamo stalwarts Ostraca, a crushing second set from the new Ice Cream Support linked duo BLVCKPUNX and a solid headlining set from Philly rippers Soul Glo.
Warming up for a full European tour, Ostraca started off the night with their signature blend of beatific and brutal. The songs drawing folx in by way of beautiful atmospheric soundscape before careening wildly into jagged edged fits.
Philly’s Soul Glo shined through a well paced showing of the range of their talents. Dancing through brutal slow drags and pinging off the walls of power violence and hardcore punk the crew upheld the high praises well earned from their visit last summer.
BLVCKPUNX is well on their way to defining a unique sound and presence for themselves in the Richmond circuit after their debut show earlier this month. Delivered in near complete darkness, Christian Nöthing’s blasting and distorted beats provide a firm base for the raggedly emotive poetry of Jafar Flowers.
