Watch Julie Storey’s Acoustic Take on “Silver Stars”

Last week Doll Baby released one of the best albums from Richmond in 2017: Hell Block, the fourth and final installment of Egghunt Records‘ Hatched series.

Following in the footsteps of Dazeases, Camp Howard and Big Baby, Doll Baby have crafted a stellar burst of emotion and energy contained in five songs led by vocalist/guitarist Julie Storey.

Outside of fronting the group, Storey also performs Doll Baby songs and other tunes in spacious solo sets around the city. Those who have seen her perform know how amazing these reimagined songs sound, but now we are happy to share one with you!

“Silver Stars” is a driving, 90s punk anthem that closes Hell Block with the brainworm hook, “throw a party on the basement floor.” The acoustic cut from Gallery5 above takes on a more somber mood and feels like an entirely new listening experience while still retaining the best elements of the more familiar album cut.

Give their album a spin here and don’t miss their EP release show at Gallery5 on Friday, October 20th, with Wing Dam and Haybaby. Tickets are $7.00 and doors open at 8:00 pm.
